I immediately looked up how bad the Wal-Mart damage was, because I'd heard they'd been hit, and I was floored. Somebody downthread said it looked like Fallout, which I've been playing through lately I had the same thought. Then I walked past a TV playing CNN at my college's student center and they were running shots of Joplin, and it stopped me in my tracks. I heard about the Joplin tornado, and I knew people died, but I don't like the way breaking news is reported, so I was going to wait a few days to read up on it. Just about a week ago, I had the thought pop into my head, "damn, how undignified would it be to die in a store as opposed to a hospital or house," probably seeded in my mind by this. Sometimes they're fast enough that every second of "What should I do!?!?" instead of getting safe can hurt people's chances. Glad to see that you and your wife made it, and you're telling the story - talking feelings out is good, and, FSM forbid the rest of us ever be in a tornado, I think that hearing stories helps us mentally prepare a little for if it does come. I want you to know that you are all appreciated and I'd give you a hug or buy you each a beer if I could. To get so much support from so many people who don't even know me is really healing for me. This was once the dvd/computer section of walmart Įdit 3: There are so many messages from people offering kind words and support that I cannot reply to you all, but I just want you to know that even the little time you took to say something kind really does mean something to me. I made it out without injury, miraculously, and would be happy to answer any question about it.Įdit 2: This picture was taken by my wife as we first stood up. For the longest time I was sure nothing would happen, but when I saw the roof ripping off over my head it really hit me that I was probably going to die. We were all herded to the back of the store. I was shopping in Walmart when the tornado hit.
